GOLF COURSE REVIEWS BY THE HARDEST TO PLEASE - THE OWNERS FORUM!!

Posted - 28/06/2008 :  21:23:38

Having waited all this time to play the course then I can only say
it has been worth the wait, quite superb golf course. I can honestly
say there are very few courses were every hole is as challenging
and memorable as the 18 at this course and I cannot wait to recommend
it to other golfers.

The quality of the greens given the short time this has ben open are
quite exceptional, even more so after they have been cut.

I would suggest that with the cheap twilight golf make the most of it,
we started at 18:00hrs and it took 3hrs 30min to play eighteen and we
had about another 20mins of light left. I think come the end of July
it would probably become difficult to get 18 holes in so make the most
of it while the cheap offer is on. Also a word of note, they come and
take the buggys off you at 21:00hrs, so be careful or you could finish
up walking a long time especially if the course is playing slow.

One observation was that the distance between tees and greens are
quite a long way, so I think players will be pleasently surprise how
it keeps play moving. I played the course three times last week,
only once did we stand on a tee and have to wait for the hole to clear.

Have not tried the course of the whites yet (apart from the 18th which
is unbelivable long into the breezewind) but I would recommend three
shreaded wheat or a explosive driver.

P.S. You dont get a lot of run on this course.

1 happy Amigo.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Played Hacienda the other day and here is the report...

What a beauty ... but then I am a bit biased.

It was every bit as good, and tough, a design as it looked on paper
when I first saw it. It is certainly the toughest test of all the PW
courses so far.
From the medium handicap yellow tees is is a pretty tough test of
golf. It must be more frightening from the low handicapper white tees.
Standing on the tees you always have several choices on most holes of
how you want to play it. Plenty of risk and reward shots...but you
have to be really striking the ball well and on your game to score
well otherwise the risks can be fatal (deep bunkers surrounding
greens or the plentiful water) and fritter away shots easily.

It is a long course and there are only a few par 4's which even after
a reasonable drive (managing not to catch one of the plentiful fairway
bunkers!),will you actually have a less than a 5 or 6 iron shot to
the green. Not many short iron approaches in regulation. Most of the
par 4's are extremely long and approach shots can be long irons.
If you are a highish handicapper you would be well advised to use your
shots carefully by playing these long 4's as 5's and layup before the
greenside trouble, which is mainly at the front. There are obviously
some of the par 3's over water which are quite intimidating at 180
 metres or so.

As if all that wasn't bad enough, the real rough is real rough at
about 2 ft high meadow grass. If you you miss the fairways, or fail
to carry some of the tee to fairway rough you are in pretty deep
trouble...and another shot or so goes.
And when you finally get onto the green you may think all your troubles
are over. Think again. The greens are in excellent condition with
tight grass, but surprisingly a little slow in pace to what you would
expect, but the main difficulty is the rolling contours on the greens
and multiple levels over which you have to putt. Expect a fair number
of 3-putts. They can really make you look a little foolish at times.

So after saying all the above...it really was a challenge to play and
thoroughly enjoyed battling against the course....you can see how the
design of the hazards are there to catch you out and trying to outwit
them is fun...if somewhat dangerous.
The tees were a picture of striped perfect grass, the faiways were
excellent (better than some greens I have played on!) and the greens
were excellent, bunkers very deep, and the water a menace. I think the
fact that you may get a couple of pars gives you that feeling of
satisfaction...which is quickly wiped off as the course comes back to
bite you.

If you like a challenge then go for it....and you will be back wanting
more. And as it matures a bit more it will get even better.

Oh, and there is always a wind blowing.!

How did I do I hear you ask? Had 17 pts on front nine ... then the heat
began to kick in, my concentration began to waver,my previous
cautiosness went out of the window and my scoring collapsed after that.
One ball lost in the water and one in the rough...so that wan't too
bad...and I had missed a hole-in-one on the 5th across the water by six
inches!!.

One other point...some people have said it really is a buggy course.
But you must keep to the buggy paths at all times so you are forever
going backwards and forwards with your clubs, moving the buggy etc...you
very rarely get a chance to see anyone else shots and certainly dont
get a chance to chat along the way. There are about 3 or 4 longish
walks between some greens to next tees...but quite manageable.
The only advantage we found with the buggy was that you had some shade
over you in the really hot sun and a bit of pleasant airflow when moving.
I think a trolley for me though next round.
